Emre Ozgu, In Memoriam
Emre Ozgu
Partner
The Barst community mourns the loss of our dear friend and partner, Emre Ozgu, who passed away March 22, 2023 at the age of 50. The pain and profound sadness we are experiencing after his untimely and unexpected passing is indescribable.
A son of Turkish immigrants, Emre was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lehigh University in 1994 and his Juris Doctor from New York Law School in 1997. Emre began his career with Barst as an associate upon graduation from law school, and later became a partner in 2006. He developed a strong practice in the Turkish community representing entrepreneurs, companies, individuals, and families.
While not working, Emre cherished spending time with family and friends, traveling, and watching his New York Mets, Miami Dolphins, and soccer. A guitar aficionado, Emre loved music and attending concerts with his friends. Emre was a kind, compassionate, and generous person who will be remembered as a tireless advocate for the immigrant community. Emre made an extraordinary difference in the lives of so many of his clients that will resonate for generations.
Emre was devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved children, Derin and Ela Ozgu; parents, Emine and Mustafa Ozgu; brother, Murat (Ronne) Ozgu; nieces, Mina Ozgu and Ariel (Sam) Feldman and nephew, Evren Ozgu. Emre devoted his life first and foremost to his children, family, friends, and his community.
Emre will be deeply missed. We will remain grateful for the time we had with him as our colleague, partner, mentor, and friend.
